Sam Wanamaker Playhouse

Bankside · South London

Sam Wanamaker Playhouse is the indoor, candlelit theatre within Shakespeare's Globe on Bankside. Its timber interior and cushioned bench seating create an intimate setting for plays, music and other events, offering a different experience from the neighbouring open-air Globe Theatre. The two venues share the wider complex and address but should remain separate listings because their auditoriums, programmes and access arrangements differ. Book a Playhouse event specifically rather than assuming that a Globe ticket grants admission to both theatres.

Plan your visit

Book through the official venue/operator route. Check the exact auditorium, date, seating plan, age/content guidance, running time and ticket terms. Contact the venue before booking if specific seating or access arrangements are essential.

Performance-led opening. Check your chosen event and arrival instructions; box-office hours are not general visitor hours.
