Criterion Theatre
Piccadilly Circus / St James’s · Central London
The Criterion is an independent theatre tucked beneath Piccadilly Circus, with most of its auditorium below street level. Managed by a charitable trust, it combines a nineteenth-century interior with a programme of contemporary entertainment and events. Its unusual layout is part of the experience, but it also makes seat selection important: stairs, pillars and sightlines vary across the house. The main entrance faces the Eros fountain, while an alternative route serves accessible seating.
